Progress : Went for some veg for our early Christmas dinner tomorrow. Cut two stems of Sprouts. Managed to lift some very large Nantes early Carrots but could not shift the Parsnips. After getting home I thought there must be a way to get some Parsnips so I went back with a spade. The surface of the ground was like concrete and the spade was useless but I managed to chip away with the prong of a fork then lift some of the smaller Parsnips.

Carrots.

Progress : Cleared the old Spinach plants from plot 2d, ran the cultivator over and spread fresh horse dung thus completing that plot to over-winter. Cleared plot 2c of spent plants, weeds and stones. The ground is still frozen in places. Cut down and composted some Sweetcorn stems and Artichoke stems.

Mon 28 Dec 2009
Weather : Overnight frost. Sunny
Progress : Went to the allotment today with the intention of double-digging the first trench in plot 2c. However, the ground was still frozen over so I cut the remaining tops off the Artichokes then cut down some more Sweetcorn stems. I also cut out the parts of the Purple Sprouting Brocolli that had bolted. All the clippings were composted.
