Weather : Wet.
Progress : Double-dug the first trench in plot 2d. Put in the stake for the Apple tree and tied it back.
Weather : Dull and damp.
Progress : No work today.
Weather : Dull.
Progress : Found my shed door open on arrival but nothing seems to have been disturbed. Double-dug another trench in plot 2d. Cut a Cauliflower from my late sowing in plot 3b.
Weather : Dull and damp.
Progress : Double-dug another trench in plot 2d.
Weather : Dull and damp.
Progress : Delivered two car-loads of stable manure. Found the gate open when I first arrived then noticed that a tractor had been onto the allotments, presumably to deliver manure. When I left, I went to shut the gate then found that it was missing. However, it had been put to one side to give the tractor access but left off, so I put it back. The supplier has started bagging very old stuff which has broked down very well. Cleared the weeds from the top of plot 1.
Weather : Dull.
Progress : Delivered another two car-loads of stable manure. At the first delivery I found the access blocked by the groundsman who was trimming the hedges so I parked by a gap in the fence and passed the bags through.
Weather : Variable.
Progress : Weeded a good area of plot 1 then spread 28 bags of stable manure. This actually covered an area of 7 yds x 4 yds so it worked out at one bag per square yard - and laid thickly at that! Cut off the tops of the remaining Leeks to put with the others I have saved to make some Leek and Potatoe soup later today. The carrot I pulled today was quite personable.
Weather : Variable.
Progress : The briefest of visits just to pull some Carrots.
Weather : Heavy rain overnight. Variable.
Progress : Took a good picking of vegetables to feed visiting family today. Dug the first of the Scorzonera. The Carrots are coming up a good size now. Also got some fresh Purple Sprouting Broccoli.
Weather : Heavy rain all day.
Progress : Managed to get onto the allotment later in the day when the rain had eased. Got some veg for dinner including the first of the Brussels Sprouts which are producing bountiful crops.
Weather : Sunny.
Progress : Took a day off except for a visit to collect veg..
Weather : Sunny.
Progress : Weeded the remainder of plot 1 and spread dung. Cut down and chopped up most of the Artichoke stems.
Weather : Wet.
Progress : I had planned to collect another two carloads of dung but the rain arrived earlier than anticipated. Braved the rain later on to get some Carrots.
Weather : Sunny spells.
Progress : Took a containerful of kitchen waste to the compost bin. Dug the first of the Jerusalem Artichokes and got a prolific crop off one plant. Cut the last of the Cauliflowers - small but very tender.
Weather : Overcast.
Progress : Took down one row of beansticks and cut up the bean vines. Tried to dig out some weeds but the ground was too wet to shake the dirt off. Had a chat with a new couple who were getting started vigourously. They seem keen to follow traditional and organic methods which is good to see.
Weather : Dull day.
Progress : Just a quick visit to get some veg for dinner.
Weather : Dull and damp.
Progress : Just a quick visit to get some veg for dinner.
Weather : Dull day.
Progress : Dug in the top dressing on part of plot 2b and sowed two rows of Broad Bean (Aquadulce Claudia). When I came to use my dibber I found that it had dissappeared from my shed. Started to cut up more bean vines but got interrupted by one of the new starters.
Weather : Sunny.
Progress : Delivered two carloads of stable manure, 12 bags in each delivery. Had a Dickens of a job getting onto the allotments for the second delivery as a car was parked partially over the gateway. The culprit was a lady who has done this before and to whom I have spoken about her inconsideration.
Weather : Sunny spells.
Progress : No work today. Even forgot to collect any veg until it was too late.
Weather : Getting colder
Progress : Mowed the grass paths then lent my mower to a neighbouring allotmenteer to do his. Took down the remaining beansticks and chopped up the vines.
Weather : Dull and colder.
Progress : Short visit for veg for dinner tonight. Whilst passing the allotments later, I found the same car parked over the gate again. As the owner was nearby, I went and spoke to her and explained the problem at which she amicably agreed to be more aware when parking.
Weather : Wet.
Progress : Just a dash out to get the veg.
Weather : Very cold wind.
Progress : Like yesterday, just a dash out to get the veg.
Weather : Mostly sunny.
Progress : Day off today.
Weather : Dark and dingy.
Progress : No work today.
Weather : Showery.
Progress : Delivered another carload of stable manure. Weeded half of plot 3b.
Weather : Bright. Getting colder.
Progress : Weeded the remainder of plot 3b.
Weather : Cold and dingy.
Progress : Top dressed plot 3b with stable manure. Our son called in whilst out walking the baby and collected some veg. Gave the first of the Winter Cabbages then took the outside leaves home for myself to make some soup. Whilst I was working, one of the new allotmenteers came up to ask where I got my manure bags as he needed some. As I always have a surplus I gave him a bundle.
Weather : Rain all night and day.
Progress : Braved the rain to get veg for Sunday dinner. The Scorzonera was so deep into the ground that I could not get to the bottom of some of the plants due to the compact layer of stones. Eat the last of the Beetroot.
