Malcolm Smith's
Allotment Cultivation Notes
| Back |
Well cultivated soil with compost dug in not too deeply is ideal. Mulching of grass cuttings or similar is useful but can give refuge to slugs and snails.
Sow and bring on under cover for early plantings. Plant out from March then sow in succession for continuous crops and to reduce the danger of bolting.
Keep weeds down by hand and hoe. Be sure to water in dry periods.
Pick when ready
Slugs and snails are the biggest problem for these plants.
