Weather : Mild with blustery showers.
Spent a couple of hours double digging on plot 2b.
Weather : Sunny spells. Strong NW wind.
Day off at the seaside.
Weather : Mild. Overcast. Drizzle.
Managed to collect some fresh horse dung for the compost bins.
Weather : Mild. Overcast. Light showers. Cooling wind.
No work.
Weather : Mild. Overcast. Scotch mist.
Dug some more of plot 2b. Sent off my main seed order to Marshalls.
Weather : Mild. Overcast. Heavy showers later.
Dug some more of plot 2b.
Weather : Mild. Overcast. Some wind. Heavy rain later.
Completed plot 2b. Sowed some early seeds in pots at home - Broad beans (Giant Exhibition
Longpod), Spring cabbage (Greyhound) & Cauliflower (Snowball A).
Weather : Mild. Overcast then rain and squally wind.
Started to clear and compost some of the larger weeds on plot 1. Started double digging
plot 2b but was rained off. The birds seem to be singing loudly declaring their terretory so
they must think it is spring already.
Weather : Mild. Overcast then rain and strong squally wind.
Completed a trench of double digging plot 2c left over from yesterday. Finished clearing
plot 1 of larger weeds and composted them. Noticed that Dandelions are coming into bloom and
chickweed has already gone to seed due to the mild weather. Bought my seed potatoes.
Weather : Early showers giving way to sunshine. Becoming chilly.
Double dug another trench in plot 2c. Collected some fresh horse dung and topped up the
compost bins. Had a five-minute chat with adjacent allotment holders. Keeping an eye on the
flooding in the field next to the allotments. Put the seed trays into the conservatory overnight.
Weather : Gale force squally gusts. Showers clearing. Mild.
Collected 12 bags of rotted stable manure and delivered it to plots 2b & c. Put the seed
trays back out. First Broad Bean shoot has appeared - three days to germinate.
Weather : Windy. Showers. Mild.
Dug a section of plot 1 - one spit deep to turn in the weeds. Collected another 12
bags of rotted stable manure.
Weather : Overcast. Light showers. Mild turning colder.
Delivered the manure to the allotment and bumped it out into position. Put the seed
potatoes into trays in the garage to chit. Brought the seed trays in overnight as low
temperatures forecast.
Weather : Overcast. Dry. Cool.
Dug some more of plot 1. Spread dung on the remainder of plots 2b and 2c. Dug the
last of the Salsify and cut the first Brussels Sprouts plant which had been late
maturing due to the poor conditions last year. The sprouts have all blown so we used the like
spring greens. Had a chat with a new couple who are starting their allotment today. Sprayed the
weeds on the centre path between plots 1 and 2
Weather : Sunny but cool.
Dug some more of plot 1.
Weather : Rain. Mild.
No work today due to bad weather.
Weather : Heavy rain giving way to sunshine. Cooler.
Dug more of plot 1 and top dressed with stable manure. Picked some leaf beet and
Brussels. Cleared perishable items from the shed floor as the flooding in the adjacent
field is getting close.
Weather : Gales. Rain. Mild.
No work today due to bad weather.
Weather : Red sunrise. Sunny and mild.
Completed digging plot 1. Cleared the row of French parsley leaving a couple of plants
for use. Picked a couple of drumhead cabbages. My seed order arrived from Marshalls.
Weather : Heavy overnight rain. Sunny but cold wind.
Dug back and trimmed the edges of plots 1 and 2. Noticed that my cabbage and
cauliflower seedlings have just emerged, two weeks after sowing. The Broad bean
seeds have not progressed at all since the first shoot appeared ten days ago.
Weather : Light overnight rain. Cold wind. Temperatures dropping
Pruned and tidied the fruit bushes. Tidied and retied the raspberries. Brought my Broad
bean and cabbage seed trays into the conservatory as a spell of cold weather is
forecast. I also have a tray of Lettuce (All the Year Round) seedlings which I started
off in late autumn.
Weather : Sunny. Icy north wind.
Day off today - painting the house.
Weather : Frost. Biting cold wind.
Pruned and tidied the loganberries. Picked some leaf beet and cabbage.
Weather : Ground wet from overnight snow. Cold wind. Sunny intervals
Collected and delivered some fresh horse dung for the composts. Sent off an order for
additional seeds from Dobies. The Broad bean seeds look a bit more interested in
sprouting since they were put indoors.
Weather : Frost. Sunny. Less cold
Collected and delivered a carload of stable manure. Picked some leaf beet and sprouts.
Weather : Frost. Dull. Less cold
Top dressed the stable manure on plot 1.
Weather : Sunny spells. Less cold.
Picked some leaf beet and cabbage.
Weather : Dull. Cool breeze.
Double dug a trench on plot 2c. Chatted with some new starters on the allotments.
Weather : Dull. Cool breeze.
Double dug a trench on plot 2c - one more to go!
Weather : Dull. Not so cold.
Opened up the last trench on plot 2c but could not dig the bottom spit as I have run out of
stable manure. Used the cultivator tool on plot 3a - very impressed with it - not bad for £1
from the tip. Later in the day I spotted a couple of children up to no good on the allotments
but they quickly ran off when I approached them. They had been into my shed but I could not see
any damage or loss there or elsewhere. [Found out later in the week that they had actually broken
into sheds further over on the allotments.]
Weather : Sunny and warm.
Collected some fresh horse dung and topped up the compost bins. Signs that the frogs are
starting to mate in the wetlands in the next field.
