Tue 11 Dec 2007
Weather : Overnight frost. Sunny but cold day.
Progress : Took a large bag of leaves from the garden for the compost. Managed to double dig and top dress two more trenches in plot 3b. My wife came down to the allotment with a flask of tea for then to sit in the sun and watch me dig. I have a couple of secondhand patio chairs (£1 each from the recycling centre) stored in my shed for such occasions. Harvested the first of the Brussels Sprouts which were the best I can remember growing, which is not saying much as I have always had trouble producing presentable sprouts. Anyhow, they were delicious and one plant gave us four meals using sprouts and tops.

Wed 12 Dec 2007
Weather : Overnight frost. Sunny but cold day.
Progress : Delivered some bags of fresh dung then returned later with a bootload of stable manure. Double dug another trench in plot 3b.

Thu 13 Dec 2007
Weather : Cold night. Generally sunny day.
Progress : Delivered another carload of stable manure. Double dug another trench in plot 3b. Harvested the one and only sizeable Swede from my last sowing. Harvested some Jerusalem Artichokes which are now plentiful and sizeable and taste much better now they are sizeable and mature.

Progress : Took a day off today.

Mon 17 Dec 2007
Weather : Frost. Cloudy with icy wind.
Progress : Ground too frozen to dig today. Took leaves from the garden and bagged them up until I have the compost enclosure free. Cut down some of the Jerusalem Artichoke stems, cut them up into small pieces and bagged them. Pruned the suckers off the Cherry Tree.

Tue 18 Dec 2007
Weather : Sunny but cold.
Progress : Double dug and top dressed two trenches in plot 3a. This area has not been previously double dug and is so stony at the lower level that it is difficult even to get the fork down to full depth. I was getting plenty of stones out, many quite large, and using then to repair the track onto the allotments.

Sun 23 Dec 2007
Weather : Frost. Cold and sunny but misty later.
Progress : No work today. Ground still frozen anyway.

Mon 24 Dec 2007
Weather : Overcast with a chilly wind.
Progress : Only managed one double dug trench today due to Christmas bloat after our early family celebrations. I made improvements to my allotmant welfare facilities by the addition of a lavatory brush. However, it is for scrubbing my wellingtons boots and not it's true intended purpose. Quite a few allotmenteers popping in today to pick Sprouts for their Christmas dinners.

Tue 25 Dec 2007
Weather : Wet day
Progress : No work today by arrangement with Santa Claus. I've promised to send him some sprouts for the reindeer.

Wed 26 Dec 2007
Weather : Sunny spells
Progress : Delivered some bags of leaves for composting. Couldn't summon the enthusiasm to do any digging today so I raked up the loose surface stones on the part of plot 3a which is next to be dug. Put a final top layer of horse dung onto the compost enclosure on plot 1 and will leave it now to rot down for next winter.

Thu 27 Dec 2007
Weather : Overcast and mild.
Progress : No work today but delivered another 10 bags of stable manure.

I shall get most from Marshalls but a few from Thompson & Morgan as they are one of the few suppliers of Sweet Potatoe which I shall be trying next season.

Weather : Overcast.
Progress : Took a day off but wrote up my
notes on the years results.
